Pingel hat-trick fires Godset to 5-1 rout of Kongsvinger at Marienlyst
Strømsgodset beat Kongsvinger 5-1 at Marienlyst on Wednesday night, with Sebastian Pingel scoring a hat-trick before half-time. Nearly 5,000 fans watched the fifth straight league win, which lifted the club to second place in the OBOS-ligaen.
A flying start under the floodlights
Strømsgodset needed just two minutes to settle the nerves at Marienlyst. Herman Stengel opened the scoring early, and the home side never looked back in front of nearly 5,000 spectators.
Sebastian Pingel then took over. He scored in the 18th, 31st and 42nd minutes to complete a first-half hat-trick. His third came from a perfect cross from the left-back, and Pingel ran the ball into the net to make it 4-0. The teams went in at half-time with the scoreline at 4-0.
Mehnert adds the fifth
With the match long since decided, the second half was about control. Substitute Marcus Mehnert made it 5-0 in the 79th minute. Dedes found him in front of goal. His first attempt was stopped by the goalkeeper, but he forced in the rebound.
Kongsvinger did get a consolation goal. Olawore was fouled in the 88th minute, and Johnson sent Lamhauge the wrong way from the penalty spot to make it 5-1. The home side managed the closing minutes comfortably. The crowd at Marienlyst responded with rhythmic applause as the final whistle approached.
Form and table
The win was Strømsgodset's fifth in a row in the OBOS-ligaen. It also made it nine wins in their last ten matches in all competitions. It was the second match in a row the club won 5-1.
The result lifted the club to second place. Strømsgodset now have 57 points from 26 matches. Haugesund lead on 59 points, and Kongsvinger are third on 56 after the defeat, so the top three are separated by only three points.
On the club's results page, Strømsgodset's record reads 17 wins, 6 draws and 3 defeats from 26 league games. They have scored 71 goals and conceded 33. The club's own report described the evening as a dream half and a show of strength in the promotion race.
The focus now turns to Sunday. Haugesund, the league leaders, visit Marienlyst for another match at the top of the table.
